Laparoscopic Surgeries

Laparoscopic surgeries are considered as an alternative to open surgeries. The pelvic area is thoroughly checked using a laparoscope. These do not require large incision, whereas an open surgery requires large incisions. The laparoscope helps the doctor to see inside the body. Conditions such as endometriosis or fibroids can be diagnosed using laparoscopy.

Laparoscopy can also be used as a treatment option. Surgeries which can be performed using laparoscopy are:

  • Ovarian Cyst Removal
  • Hysterectomy and
  • Tubal Ligation

Diagnostic laparoscopy is chosen in gynecology for the following reasons:

  • If the patient is suffering from unexplained infertility
  • If the woman has a history of pelvic infection

Following conditions can be diagnosed using laparoscopy:

  • Uterine Fibroids
  • Pelvic Adhesions
  • Pelvic Abscess
  • Reproductive Cancers
  • Infertility
  • Ovarian Cysts or Tumors
  • Ectopic Pregnancy
  • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease

Gynecological treatments using laparoscopy are:

  • Ovarian Cyst Removal
  • Ovary removal
  • Removal of Fibroids
  • Adhesion Removal
  • Prolapse Treatment

The procedure of laparoscopy is performed under general anesthesia. A small tube (Catheter) is then inserted and collects the urine. Carbon Dioxide gas will be filled into the abdomen. The gas helps the abdominal wall to keep away from the organs. This is done in order to reduce the surgical risks like injuries.

Making an incision in the navel, a laparoscope will be inserted. The images inside will be shown in the screen. Further procedures will depend upon the kind of treatment/diagnostic method that you are undergoing.
